B.Parents should play role in fighting childhood obesity because children look to their parents as role models and therefore it is important that parents should adopt habits so their children can learn from it, such as liking fruits and vegetables, snacking only when hungry and making a conscious effort to eat low fat and low caloric food and drinking a lot of water instead of soda. Remember, the health of the baby starts in the womb. There is 80 percent of ris

Resolved Question: which of these surprises you? and why?
I'm just curious. •Adults 18 and older need 30 minutes of physical activity on five or more days a week to be healthy; children and teens need 60 minutes of activity a day for their health. •Significant health benefits can be obtained by including a moderate amount of physical activity (e.g., 30 minutes of brisk walking or raking leaves, 15 minutes of running, 45 minutes of playing volleyball). Additional health benefits can be gained through greater amounts of physical activity. •Thirty to sixty minutes of activity broken into smaller segments of 10 or 15 minutes throughout the day has significant health benefits. •Heart disease is the leading cause of death among men and women in the United States. Physically inactive people are twice as likely to develop coronary heart disease as regularly active people. •37% of adults report they are not physically active. Only 3 in 10 adults get the recommended amount of physical activity. •Poor diet and inactivity can lead to overweight/obesity. Persons who are overweight or obese are at increased risk for high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, coronary heart disease, stroke, gallbladder disease, osteoarthritis, sleep apnea, respiratory problems and some types of cancer. •41 million Americans are estimated to have pre-diabetes. Most people with pre-diabetes develop type 2 diabetes within 10 years, unless they make changes to their diet and physical activity that results in a loss of about 5-7 percent of their body weight. •Obesity continues to climb among American adults. Nearly 60 million Americans are obese. More than 108 million adults are either obese or overweight. That means roughly 3 out of 5 Americans carry an unhealthy amount of excess weight. •The percentage of adults in the United States who were overweight or obese (body mass index greater than or equal to 25) in 1999-2002 was 65 percent. Overweight and obesity cuts across all ages, racial and ethnic groups, and both genders. A new study in the Netherlands found that excess weight cuts years off your life. •16 percent of children and teens aged 6 to 19 were overweight in 1999-2002, triple the proportion in 1980. Fifteen-percent of children in the same age group are considered at-risk for overweight. The percentage of overweight African American, Hispanic, and Native American children is about 20%. •More than 10 percent of children between the ages of 2 and 5 are overweight, double the proportion since 1980. •Health risks associated with being overweight or obese include type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, asthma, arthritis. •The major barriers most people face when trying to increase physical activity are time, access to convenient facilities, and safe environments in which to be active. •School and worksite interventions have been shown to be successful in increasing physical activity levels. •Physical activity among children and adolescents is important because of the related health benefits (cardio-respiratory function, blood pressure control, weight management, cognitive and emotional benefits). •According to a study done by the National Association of Sports and Physical Education (NASPE), infants, toddlers, and pre-schoolers should engage in at least 60 minutes of physical activity daily and should not be sedentary for more than 60 minutes at a time except when sleeping. •One quarter of U.S. children spend 4 hours or more watching television daily. •Young people are at particular risk for becoming sedentary as they grow older. Encouraging moderate and vigorous physical activity among youth is important. Because children spend most of their time in school, the type and amount of physical activity encouraged in schools is important. •Only 25 percent of students in grades 9 through 12 engaged in moderate physical activity for at least 30 minutes on 5 or more of the previous 7 days in 2003.

Resolved Question: eat healthy food everyday?
How did you develop you current nutritional habits? Every individual has different nutritional habits some choose to eat healthy and some choose to eat unhealthy but the different between them is something individual are unaware. I hardly eat junks food even though they are the best things and really delicious I would love to have junks food but I don’t get time to eat. In the morning I usually have tea with a bread or cookies or probably nothing and for lunch I will have some sort of salad in school and when I go home I eat rice, chicken, vegetable anything my sister or my mom have cooked for me. Then I have to have something in the evening like fruits or juice because I usually work out in the evening so I need to have fruit or something to drink healthy and then I eat twice at night because I am awake for longer time so I need to eat and keep myself full my dinner is usually the same as lunch nothing really different unfortunately. I have developed this habit because I have been doing this for longer time and it was through my parents they cause me eat this many times but now they regret of making my habit that way because I finish everything at home. What is the relationship of food to health? Relationship to food to health is really big the way people act, talk or looks like really appears of what you take in to your stomach. Changes in our understanding of diet and health drive changes in the way foods are processed. On the other hand, what is available on the shelf will have an impact on the choices consumers make, thereby affecting their health. Studies have indicated that nutritional factors do contribute to the development of some of these diseases. After eating contaminated food, people can develop anything from a short, mild illness, often mistakenly referred to as "food poisoning," to life-threatening disease. Right food can make you appear healthier physically mentally and emotionally. so choosing the right food is very important. What are the health problems that might occur from bad diet decisions? There is many health problems that can occur from bad diet decisions such as Eating junk food during pregnancy could have a bigger impact on childhood obesity, liver disease and diabetes. Almost one-third of children aged six to 19 and 12 per cent of infants in the United States are overweight, according to a National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, and obesity is now the most prevalent nutritional disease of children and adolescents in the US. " A high-fat diet in the womb may also affect the "appetite centre" of the brain. Also eating a lot of trans fats that contain partially hydrogenated oil probably increases the risk of heart disease. some diet also effects your breathe which many people are unaware of it such as Low-carb diets may be good for your waistline, but you might not be able to say the same for your breath. Bad breath in the low/no-carb sect is often caused by certain chemicals that are released in the breath as the body burns fat. They are called ketones, and entering into a fat-burning state of ketosis is the hallmark of the Atkins diet. It's a difficult problem to solve because if one uses any sucking candy or lozenge, one has to be careful that it has no sugar in it Why is permanent weight control best achieved by the combination of diet and exercise? When you eat healthy food and exercise you remain in shape and controlled and away from obesity that you might get from junks. You are much more healthier then the rest of other who choose to eat unhealthy food for there dinner, lunch and breakfast as you exercise you burn off your calories and fats which leads you to remain much more healthier then others. Your heart is healthier you remain free from being obese and any other physical or mental disease that might occur. You are just doing yourself a favor and minimize a lot of health issues and when you take in healthy food inside you remain healthy you feel better and lighter and just happier believe it or not eating healthy food really effects your brain and pressurize your mind in a healthier way.

Resolved Question: Best way to end this conclusion?
I'm writing a short paper on the effects of advertising on the childhood obesity rate. Here is what I have so far in terms of the conclusion: The number of overweight children and adolescents in America has practically doubled over the last two decades, and this is owed in part to the overwhelming amounts of advertising aimed at young people. Children between the ages of eight and twelve are exposed to more media now than ever before, over 40,000 advertisements a year. Americans have just recently begun to take notice of the issue, and are now realizing that the government needs to respond better to the increasing problem of childhood and adolescent obesity. More than seventy-five percent of all advertising directed towards kids and teens promotes unhealthy and sugary foods. Studies have shown that the banning of all of these types of ads could reduce the childhood obesity rate by 18 percent, but the government fears it could lead to total censorship. Companies such as Disney and Sesame Workshop, and even some food companies themselves, are picking up where the government’s initiative, Verb, left off: not only are they promoting exercise as a way to avoid obesity, but are also encouraging kids and teens to eat healthier foods, and are educating parents on the link between food advertising and childhood obesity. What would be a good last few sentences to finish up with? I feel like it's not really complete; it needs a little more.

Resolved Question: URGENT!! due today? help?
does this sound like a good (okay) editorial? For decades, the standard operating procedure in the classroom has been teach, then have students continue to teach themselves in the form of homework. Time and time again, the formula has been revised, recreated and redistributed across all grade levels. The time our children spend doing homework has skyrocketed in recent years. Parents spend countless hours nagging their kids to complete such assignments—often without considering whether they serve any worthwhile purpose. The truth, according to Sara Bennett and Nancy Kalish, is that there is almost no evidence that homework helps high school students achieve academic success. Yet the nightly burden is taking a serious toll on these children. It robs them of the sleep, play, and exercise time they need for proper physical, emotional, and neurological development. And it is a hidden cause of the childhood obesity epidemic. Studies suggest that teenagers often sacrifice their sleep time when it comes to making choices about time management. The problem is, studies also show that they need a lot more sleep than they probably get. According to a study by sleep expert Mary Carskadon, PhD, teens should receive more than nine hours of sleep every night. That's a great thought, but is it possible? Think about it--do you ever sleep that long? OK, maybe on the weekends. But very few teens receive sufficient sleep on school nights. Lack of sleep makes it more difficult for students to concentrate in school, therefore lowering their academic achievements, or thinking it does so, then have their parents nagging them to do better, putting a bit more stress on them, and then having to remain sedentary for longer to complete more study, therefore not allowing time for exercise, making them more stressed, because they have no way to exert it, and because they are worried about their looks. This can create a vicious circle for the child that affects their physical and emotional well-being. Has anyone ever told you, when you’re a kid it’s the best 17 years of your life? Your should cherish your freedom? What freedom? Freedom to do schoolwork out of school. Yes, children and adolescents should create good work habits, so instead of making them sit around all afternoon doing homework and assignments, get them to go outside and get active, and have a parent sign a form. By having something signed, it would enforce commitment, which is something a lot of people lack. So let them cherish their childhood while they can, because that’s something they’ll never get back. i'm only in year 10, and i already do good in english so i don't have to have this perfect, i understand others will have another point of view, but isin't that the point of an editorial? to state your opinion on the article? that way it creates some emotion from the people reading it, wether they disagree or not thankyou for your answers so far, they were really helpful thankyou :]

Resolved Question: May someone please critique my essay?
In “The Gospel of Food” by Barry Glassner believe that a fast food industry changes our culture with food and health issues. The poor, middle class, and adolescents fall in the category of the ethnic restaurant that is cheap. Now a day, people are getting to lazy to take time to at least make a sandwich or to use their manners without grabbing the food with their hands. Society will always change their culture, it does not matter if someone eats a burger with there hands or dine at a place where the food is cheap. Attending daily to a fast food area is a problem people need to learn how to limit there cravings for a hamburger. Malnutrition has always been a problem in the community. As Bailey Burritt states that bad eating habits occur by “ignorance not poverty”. Anyone has the choice to eat a healthy and a balanced diet. Taking time to cook a meal for the family prevents issues with food crisis. Food poisoning always occurs at a fast food their products are not healthy. These food are kept processed, who knows if the meat is not spoiled. Children spend most of there time at the fast food chains and less in activities. Obesity, heart disease, and high cholesterol happen frequently when consuming fast food daily. Social status is changing because of these restaurants. Foreigners that come to America experience the difference of food and culture. Adolescent from France, prefer “self service aspect, absence of table settings, utensils, and the usual rules of etiquette". The French tradition is to always eat at the fanciest restaurant with utensils and a posture of high class. I’m of two minds about Barry Glassner’s claim that the food chain changes our customs with food and health. On one hand, I agree that society is changing their habits with food and our health problem has increased. On the other hand, I’m not sure if we should make a big deal of how people act or eat. When someone enters a fast food area, sits down expecting a waiter/waitress to take their order. That is not going to happen, these areas improves personal skills of doing things on your own. Utensils and the rules of manners do not play a part with a hamburger. Imagine someone using a fork for a hamburger. Would this seem strange or awkward? Of course they would seem awkward and strange. The only time proper manners should occur is at home, school, or a fancy restaurant. Health dilemma, there is no excuse for not feeding your child with healthy food. I understand single mothers have to work double shift to maintain a roof over their child’s head. That is not an excuse for being lazy or taking time to teach your child to prepare something easy and healthy. A mother complicates matters further when she writes, “My husband left us a few years ago and it’s just me and my son now. I work different shifts over at the hospital and don’t have much time to cook.” In other words, this mother believes that it is alright to feed their child every day fast food. This mother is a nurse as a RN they should know that fast food is bad for a child. Although I agree with Barry Glassner up to a point, I still suggest that the main focus should be on health issues and not how people act when their socializing at these type of places. If mothers would stop to think about their child, not their job, they would realize the risk that may develop into obesity, heart disease, and high cholesterol. Manners at a fast food chain are ridiculous, people choose the way they want to act or eat. Glassner should stop worrying about changes in our behavior and focus more on other important facts.

Resolved Question: Is this article True?
1) Less may mean more. For people who sleep under seven hours a night, the fewer zzzz's they get, the more obese they tend to be, according to a 2006 Institute of Medicine report. This may relate to the discovery that insufficient sleep appears to tip hunger hormones out of whack. Leptin, which suppresses appetite, is lowered; ghrelin, which stimulates appetite, gets a boost. 2) You're more apt to make bad food choices. A study published this week in the Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine found that people with obstructive sleep apnea or other severely disordered breathing while asleep ate a diet higher in cholesterol, protein, total fat, and total saturated fat. Women were especially affected. 3) Diabetes and impaired glucose tolerance, its precursor, may become more likely. A 2005 study published in the Archives of Internal Medicine found that people getting five or fewer hours of sleep each night were 2.5 times more likely to be diabetic, while those with six hours or fewer were 1.7 times more likely. 4) The ticker is put at risk. A 2003 study found that heart attacks were 45 percent more likely in women who slept for five or fewer hours per night than in those who got more. 5) Blood pressure may increase. Obstructive sleep apnea, for example, has been associated with chronically elevated daytime blood pressure, and the more severe the disorder, the more significant the hypertension, suggests the 2006 IOM report. Obesity plays a role in both disorders, so losing weight can ease associated health risks. 6) Auto accidents rise. As stated in a 2007 report in the New England Journal of Medicine, nearly 20 percent of serious car crash injuries involve a sleepy driver—and that's independent of alcohol use. 7) Balance is off. Older folks who have trouble getting to sleep, who wake up at night, or are drowsy during the day could be 2 to 4.5 times more likely to sustain a fall, found a 2007 study in the Journal of Gerontology. 8) You may be more prone to depression. Adults who chronically operate on fumes report more mental distress, depression, and alcohol use. Adolescents suffer, too: One survey of high school students found similarly high rates of these issues. Middle schoolers, too, report more symptoms of depression and lower self-esteem. 9) Kids may suffer more behavior problems. Research from an April issue of the Archives of Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine found that children who are plagued by insomnia, short duration of sleeping, or disordered breathing with obesity, for example, are more likely to have behavioral issues like attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. 10) Death's doorstep may be nearer. Those who get five hours or less per night have approximately 15 percent greater risk of dying—regardless of the cause—according to three large population-based studies published in the journals Sleep and the Archives of General Psychiatry.

Resolved Question: math help???????????????????????????????????
can you help make up question from this article on percent answers to questions too. Each Daily Soda Increases Obesity Risk 60% For every soft drink or sugar-sweetened beverage a child drinks every day, their obesity risk appears to jump 60%. About 65% of adolescent girls and 74% of adolescent boys consume soft drinks daily. Currently, soft drinks constitute the leading source of added sugars in the diet, amounting to 36.2 grams daily for adolescent girls and 57.7 grams for boys. The study included over 500 schoolchildren of various ethnic backgrounds who were aged 11 and 12. The investigators found that for every can or glass of sugar-sweetened beverage a child drank during the 19-month study, a child's body mass index -- a measure of weight related to height -- and their chance of becoming obese increased 60%. This is the first long-term study that links soft drink consumption to obesity in children. The study received no financial support from any organization that either promotes or opposes soft drink consumption. Obesity among US children has increased significantly since 1960 -- by 54% in children aged 6 to 11 and by 40% for adolescents, according to a report on the topic that came out late last year. The consumption of soft drinks has increased 500% in the last 50 years, according to the US Department of Agriculture.

Resolved Question: I'm 15 years old...and I have some...unusaul ideas about taking over America, what do you think about them?
Lately, I've bee having thoughts about taking over America and...rebuilding it. Why? Because America is going down the drain economically, politically and etc. Economically, we've become too dependent upon imported goods a fair amount of them from China, and we're especially too dependent on oil. As of January 30, 2008, the total U.S. federal debt was approximately $9.20 trillion. And the American dollar is gradually decreasing in it's worlwide value. Politcal parties are doing nothing but dividing our country and it's making us weak, plus there's a fair amout of internal corruption and some politicians are sinking to new lows just to get votes and etc. The government is constantly hiding stuff from the American people, they've probably already found cures for some diseases ad sicknesses but just haven't revealed it since thousands of doctors would likely lose their jobs. Our military is being exhausted on this War on Terrorism. Our health is slowly decreasing and obesity percentages are increasing every year. Pollution and deforestation is still a prblem in the USA. The American Academy of Pediatrics has identified the sexual behaviors of American adolescents as a "major public health problem", and there is a strong correlation between early sexual activity and engaging in other risky behaviors. Every year, an estimated 1 in 4 sexually active teens contracts an STD, and teen pregnancy is 2 to 10 times more prevalent in the United States than in other similarly developed countries. Although early sexual activity may be caused by a variety of factors, the media are believed to play a significant role.[According to journalism professor and media critic Jane Brown, since adolescents see so much sex in the media it is piquing their interest in sex at ages younger than they have traditionally been. But anyways, it just makes me...ANGRY. So angry that i wanna start a violent (if that's necessary) revolution agaist America, take it over, burn or take most of it's historical documents and rewrite them, put some new laws into affect, and get America back on it's feet so what do you think?

Voting Question: can someone help reword my essay? and its due tomorrow?
There are a variety of factors that contribute to the rise of obesity levels. As the argument in this essay has outlined, there are many policies and programs that could contribute to a reversal of obesity trends in Canada. Responsibility for implementing solutions will need to be shared across sectors and levels of government, with business and industry, with voluntary organizations and with citizens. The past 25 years have seen a considerable increase in the percentage of Canadian children and adolescents who are overweight or obese. The increase was particularly notable among 12- to 17-year-olds, whose obesity rate more than doubled, and whose obesity rate tripled. ( ) The burden to the health care system of childhood obesity is difficult to measure because the related physical health problems are usually not evident until later in life. However, the improvement in the incidence of obesity among children is essential because obesity in youth often continues into adulthood. A recent Canadian study based on longitudinal data found that once an adult is overweight, further weight gain is likely; very few return to the normal weight range.( ) However, some of the factors associated with overweight and obesity among young people are modifiable. Increased consumption of fruit and vegetables, as well as, more exercise and less time dedicated to inactive activities such as watching television and playing video games may help overturn the upward trend. Also, increased contributions from the government will help improve childhood obesity in Canada.

Resolved Question: Older adults amongst us only please, about adolescent obesity?
How many obese schoolmates do you remember in your time spent there? How long ago was that? I remember one in elementary, and another one in high school, which had 500 students. Obese being 20 or more pounds overweight, not just a tad chubby. 30 years ago. "Health Canada" states that 20 or more pounds overweight is obese, not my figures dude, doctors fugures.

Resolved Question: What are we as Americans supposed to look like?
You have the Dove campaign to help show women in their natural beauty whether they are petite, big, or curvy. But yet you have the health nuts who call the likes of Jordin Sparks "fat" and make an obsession of BMI. When its not about obesity, people are worried about kids, adolescents and even adults with eating disorders (anorexia and bulimia). Why can't we as Americans just accept that although we have to cut out our fast food habits, we shouldn't all want that zero percent body fat freakishly gnarled cut up body? Some people look GOOD chubby while others are naturally slim. Why can't we all just see ourselves and each other as beautiful instead of having a definitive standard of beauty (which is what you see on television)? Start showing guys who may be thin but not with six-pack abs or huge steroid-induced muslces and girls who have some to love. We won't be able to accept and love the diversity of America if we can't even love our own bodies. actually Peace- I'm not fat. I'm thin, vegetarian, and actually have a slender body. I'm not a bad looking guy either. Believe it or not.

Resolved Question: 'Fat' could become 'normal' in America by 2015?
this is horrible http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/news/worldnews.html?in_article_id=469486&in_page_id=1811 If Americans keep gaining weight at the current rate, fat will be the norm by 2015, with 75 per cent of US adults overweight and 41 percent obese, researchers have predicted. A team at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore examined 20 studies published in journals and looked at national surveys of weight and behavior for their analysis, published in the journal Epidemiologic Reviews. "Obesity is a public health crisis. If the rate of obesity and overweight continues at this pace, by 2015, 75 per cent of adults and nearly 24 per cent of US children and adolescents will be overweight or obese," Dr. Youfa Wang, who led the study, said in a statement... http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/news/worldnews.html?in_article_id=469486&in_page_id=1811

Resolved Question: Any correlation studies between participation in Home Economics courses and general health/obesity rates?
I have seen the recently published ones with family time, behavior and adolescent rates. I have noticed that people who have taken at least two Home Ec courses in High school tend to eat better (more nutrionally sound) or were taught at home did better than the others who didn't. I wonder if anyone has ever done a study on this, and incorporate Home Economics (or "consumer" whatever they changed it to) into a standard of education so young adults do not have to rely on fast food, like Subway or McDonalds, to teach them nutrition. I took many in high school, and paid more attention to my health (plus my family influence). I'm not too concerned about obesity, as there are many factors involved, but general health status. For those who may be interested...Germany is working on this (HA, my grandmother is full german...and whom I learned all about frugal living!) This was the type of information I needed to know....nutritional studies. http://www.dw-world.de/dw/article/0,2144,2251268,00.html I have to make my own pizza at home, and realized it tastes better and much healthier than store-bought/premade. Same with cookies, cakes, Bisquick, etc.

Resolved Question: Kids With High IQs Grow Up to Be Vegetarians ... do you agree with this news article?
British researchers have found that children's IQ predicts their likelihood of becoming vegetarians as young adults -- lowering their risk for cardiovascular disease in the process. The finding could explain the link between smarts and better health, the investigators say. "Brighter people tend to have healthier dietary habits," concluded lead author Catharine Gale, a senior research fellow at the MRC Epidemiology Resource Centre of the University of Southampton and Southampton General Hospital. Recent studies suggest that vegetarianism may be associated with lower cholesterol, reduced risk of obesity and heart disease. This might explain why children with high IQs tend to have a lower risk of heart disease in later life. The report is published in the Dec. 15 online edition of the British Medical Journal. "We know from other studies that brighter children tend to behave in a healthier fashion as adults -- they're less likely to smoke, less likely to be overweight, less likely to have high blood pressure and more likely to take strenuous exercise," Gale said. "This study provides further evidence that people with a higher IQ tend to have a healthier lifestyle." In the study, Gale's team collected data on nearly 8,200 men and women aged 30, whose IQ had been tested when they were 10 years of age. "Children who scored higher on IQ tests at age 10 were more likely than those who got lower scores to report that they were vegetarian at the age of 30," Gale said. The researchers found that 4.5 percent of participants were vegetarians. Of these, 2.5 percent were vegan, and 33.6 percent said they were vegetarian but also ate fish or chicken. There was no difference in IQ score between strict vegetarians and those who said they were vegetarian but who said they ate fish or chicken, the researchers add. Vegetarians were more likely to be female, of higher social class and better educated, but IQ was still a significant predictor of being vegetarian after adjustment for these factors, Gale said. "Vegetarian diets are associated with lower cardiovascular disease risk in a number of studies, so these findings suggest that a such a diet may help to explain why children or adolescents with a higher IQ have a lower risk of coronary heart disease as adults," Gale said. One expert said the findings aren't the whole answer, however. "This study left many unanswered questions such as: Did the vegetarian children grow up in a household with a vegetarian parent? Were meatless meals regularly served in the household? Were the children eating a primarily vegetarian diet at the age of 10?" said Lona Sandon, an assistant professor of clinical nutrition at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas. "In addition, we don't know the beliefs or attitudes of the parents of the children, nor do we know if there was a particular event that led these children to becoming vegetarian in their teens or adulthood," Sandon said. As the study showed, more women than men chose a vegetarian diet, Sandon noted. "Other research shows that women in general will focus more on their health than men. So, if they believe that a vegetarian diet will have health benefits, they are more likely to follow it," she said. Given these factors, "we cannot draw any solid conclusions from this research," Sandon added. Another expert agreed that a vegetarian diet is healthy. "The evidence linking vegetarianism to good health outcomes is very strong," said Dr. David L. Katz, the director of the Prevention Research Center and an associate professor of public health at the Yale University School of Medicine. "Studies, for example, of vegetarian Seventh-Day Adventists in California suggest that they have lower rates of almost all major chronic diseases, and greater longevity, than their omnivorous counterparts," Katz said. "Evidence is also strong and consistent that greater intelligence, higher education, and loftier social status -- which tend to cluster with one another -- also correlate with good health."

Resolved Question: do u think this is a good persusive essay???
Should schools allow the sale of junk food? This is a question that majority of elementary, middle school and high school students would answer “Yes” to. I on the other hand am a part of the students that answer “No” to this question. As teenagers most students are not worried about their health, they are more worried about the taste of their food. What students do not know is what will happen to them after they eat all of these varieties of junk food. Some junk food children eat is pizza, chips, candy, soda, and other munchies. Parents will probably say that potato chips come from potatoes so it is healthy but, most potato chips are deep fried so it is filled with oil. This is even worse because from all that oil going through your body it can make a person sick. Schools give children lessons on what they should eat. The next day Schools are serving exactly the same foods that they told them not to eat. Schools should ban all vending machines that serve junk food, they might get extra money but is that better than having the district tell you that you have very unhealthy students at the school. A government Accountability Office study last year found that 99 percent of high schools, 97 percent of middle schools and 83 percent of elementary schools have vending machines, school stores or snack bars sell mostly unhealthy snack and drinks. Schools are not the only reason but also parents have a part in this. Because some parents have busy schedules so they do not have time to make home cooked meals. They have dinners at the drive through in other words at fast food restaurants. The impact from that causes children the urge to have those exact types of food choices ordinarily at school. School districts think that munchies from vending machines will get students to keep them alert. Well, I have got news for them candy will keep them alert only in one way and that is not listening in class, it is an alert that lets them talk and initially fall asleep in classes. Therefore, they still will not pay attention to what is going on in class, so I ask this question. Do students really need junk food at school? Students usually do not have time for breakfast. So when they get to lunch time that is basically there breakfast. Some schools offer breakfast but what they offer is not a healthy meal, they serve a cinnamon twist nearly like as a donut, and that has many more calories, also sell bagels with cream and cheese and muffins. After school children get home and eat snacks, and do not think they eat fruits and veggies they eat candy and all types of junk food they can get there greedy hands on. In many schools, there are so many children with obesity and diabetes, also others will get tooth decay. Today there are more diabetic children then the last few years. Just by banning few foods will not help. Every school should have a program that helps children get energized and be educated on nutrition facts. It is not like children develop into teenagers and stop growing. As they become older there bodies will need more of those healthy foods they should have ate like milk which helps your bones a lot and other healthy foods like carrots and cereal. When there is an obese child he or she will become an adult with major chronic health problems. What this means is, making junk food a part of your regular meal will cause major health problems in the future. Many people will become obese and will develop heart problems, diabetes, cholesterol, and high blood pressure. Some children do not have fast metabolisms like other healthy children. So those adolescents who do not think there perfect, will get depressed and eat even more food then they can handle. Others like women go on crash diets to look their best for men. For example actors go on crash diets to obtain the skinny look so that they can get roles in movies. One of the unhealthiest habits to not gain weight is a crash diet, like not eating at all, this is called anorexia. Another eating disorder, common to young women of normal weight, is when the eat food and constantly make themselves vomit, or in other words self-induced vomiting this disorder is call bulimia. All in all, schools should ban junk food because many children are getting infected by this type of eating.
